The last few months have been a test in patience. The process of attaining a massage therapy license in North Carolina is no easy task. Applying for a license involves character references by licensed health professionals, a background check, lengthy paperwork, and a standardized exam. Then there is the waiting. It can take up to 3 months to receive a license after applying.
And to be honest, I am grateful for that. It makes me think that I am among those who really want to be in this field, those who have (patiently) waited while a board ensures that they are qualified to safely and professionally offer massage therapy to the public. As I was in this stage of waiting I also realized just how much I anticipated being a therapist. “Are you licensed yet?” was a question posed daily by friends and family. Each time I was asked, it made me more excited about the day that I could say yes.
And now that day is here. I am a licensed massage therapist and have the privilege of starting my own business in a beautiful office near downtown Durham. I am thankful. I am excited. I am scared. I know that I am still learning so much but also trust that I have much to offer. I am opening shop this week and opening myself to a world of possibilities and gifts.
